fiber optic tech

Fiber cable is a network communication cable that is made up of strands of glass fiber inside an insulating casing, which is designed for long distance, high performance data networking, and telecommunications.

Evolving Advancements

Fiber communication cable evolves each and every day. This is due to the capability of the optical devices in their leading role of evolution in the long haul communication.

In the 1970's digital communication was based on electronics and electrical coaxial cable transmitted data at 565 Mbps over a 1 km distance between regenerators.

In the 1980's optical switches were introduced for the sparing of injection lasers in the systems of the submarines which were later made possible to be able to transmit 565 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps over a distance of 100 Km.

In the 1990's, system designers came up with three new ideas:

  1. Periodic optical amplification for managing fiber's losses
  2. Periodic dispersion compensation for managing fiber dispersion\WDM for enhancing the system capacity
  3. Later in the mid-1990's, DWDM was introduced which combined multiple optical signals so that they could be transported as a group, over a single fiber and separate the wavelength channels in the receiving end. Fiber communication was revolutionized by the mixture of broadband optical amplification and DWDM.

Fiber communication cable is conducive in transmitting data due to the following:

  • It is faster since it does not travel at the speed of light but does travel at a very close range of 31% slower. It experiences less signal loss as it can travel anywhere of a range of 984.2 feet to 24.8 miles.
  • Fiber cable is impervious to electromagnetic interference as it does not conduct electricity.
  • As fiber cables are unlikely to break easily, the cost of maintenance is well reduced.

Protect Fiber Optic Cables with Critter Guard

At Critter Guard, we know how important power and digital communication is to our way of life. Our humane wildlife control devices are developed for protecting electric power and telecommunication lines and substations for utility companies and homeowners across the world. Our Line Guard and Pole Guard products are designed to humanely deter squirrels and any other animals from accessing electric power and data communication lines, transformers, and other telecommunication devices, resulting in reduced loss of life for animals while keeping power and information flowing safely.
